ADOPTION PROCESS
At Pinehurst Goldens, we want to make it as simple as possible to bring your new family member home. Below is a quick breakdown of the general process. This is just a general guideline, but should help you through the process.
LEARN ABOUT GOLDEN RETRIEVERS
The first step when adopting any pet is to do your research. Be sure you understand what the size, characteristics, temperament, and physical needs are before deciding. The AKC has a great page on Golden Retrievers Here.
APPLY
The next step is to fill out our Adoption Application. Pinehurst Goldens tries to vet all our potential adopters to be sure our puppies are going to loving homes with families who understand the temperament and needs of Golden Retrievers. Please be sure you understand the responsibility and cost involved in pet ownership before applying.
APPROVAL
Within a day or two you will receive an email from Pinehurst Goldens with either your approval or the reason for not being able to proceed with the adoption.
If you are approved, your approval email will include a link to pay the deposit for the adoption. At this time you can let us know how you would like to receive your puppy (eg: delivery or pickup). If you need delivery, we will get you a quote. Once approved and deposit is paid, you will need to sign our Adoption Contract HERE. Once you fill out the contract online, we will send you a docusign copy to digitally sign as well.
THE WAITING!
Once your deposit is received all you have to do is wait until the puppies are 6 weeks old so you can choose your new family member. You can view puppies HERE. Once your choice is made at 6 weeks, you will make your final payment. Final payments not made within 48 hours of puppy choice will result in the puppy being adopted by another family. Your baby will be ready to go home with you at 8 weeks. You will receive updates from Pinehurst Goldens about vet visits, weight gains, personality, and potty training along with pictures of your sweetheart.
ADOPTION DAY!
Once your chosen pup is ready to go home, we will have him/her ready either for pick up or for the delivery service. Your pup will be ready to go with all papers, vet records, a sample of dog food, and special item from home to ease the transition. If delivery is required, then delivery will be a day or two after the "available to go home" date to allow time for delivery. Please keep in mind that if you will be flying your puppy home yourself, a carrier is required. There are no laws dictating the type of carrier to use, but remember that it must be small enough to fit under a standard airplane seat and should generally not exceed 45 linear inches (length + width + height), or roughly 21.5 by 15.5 by 9 inches. Depending on the airline, carrier size limits may be even smaller.
